Scouts at Home

Scouts at Home

Looking for Mission: Great Indoors then scroll down to the purple bar that says Mission: Great Indoors and find out this weeks family challenge.

The fun and adventure of Scouting doesn’t have to stop when the flag is lowered at the end of a session. At 1st Farnsfield we have a number of resources that enable you to continue Scouting at home or wherever you maybe. These are little activities or tasks that can contribute towards your next badge!

There are over 45 little activities which you can do for fun, there’s 15+ badge activities and little resources will be available through Parent Portal, our online system for tracking your life in Scouts. On top of all of this there is a Jamboree on the Internet! Released today (20th March) The Scouts have been working heard to create The Great Indoors activity packs. More below.

We do recommend with all activities and badges that before you start you ask an adult to support.

Our top three resource are below but continue reading below these to see lots more!

The Great Indoors

We know the coming days and weeks are going to be difficult for families across the UK, as the spread of Covid-19 causes schools to close. As the experts in developing skills and bringing adventure to young people, we want to do what we can to help.

While we normally love the great outdoors, we’ve pulled together some inspired indoor activity ideas (if we do say so ourselves). Keep your kids learning new skills and having fun (and avoid hearing ‘I’m bored’ every 30 seconds) all in #TheGreatIndoors.

Visit www.scouts.org.uk/thegreatindoors for 100+ activities to do.

Mission: Great Indoors

One challenge to do at home on your own or with a family member. Each week (or as much as we can!) we’ll release a new mission each week for young people to do in the evening, with a family member or just on their own. We know it’s a busy time at the moment so we don’t want just another thing to do so we’ve made them self service as much as possible. Take on the challenge! Grab a cuppa and put your feet up while your children have a go.

Choose from an EASY, MEDIUM or HARD activity! Once you’ve done update the sheet with photo’s then upload to Parent Portal under Badges or email to badges@1stfarnsfield.org.uk. This will go towards a badge!

While we’re closed due to COVID-19 we’ve raided the Scout Store and have lots of kit to give away. If you upload your completed sheet for that week to Parent Portal under Badges we’ll enter your name into a hat to win some Scout Store kit. We’ve got ducks, bags, pens, drinks bottles, badges and some pinny things that go on your top!

To find out more about Badges at Home on the Parent Portal visit the Badges at Home section of this page further down the screen.

Meet Up @ The Scout Hut

We can’t meet in person unfortunately but all sections are still meeting online to do their Scouting ‘thing’. We’re using our very own virtual Scout Hut! Contact your section leader for information on how to access The Scout Hut.

As with everything there’s lots of resources The Scouts have available so see below if you want even more to do at home.

A bit of me time!

With all the news at the moment about the outbreak why not take time to read about how to manage the stress from it all on the BBC here.

Badges at Home

Sections which provide programme and badge information through Parent Portal will have available additional badge work that is set from your section leaders. This means you can log into the Parent Portal, find the next activity or badge you want to do with a little house next to it, complete it and then submit your evidence back to your Section Leader for approval. At the end of that you can get a badge. How simple!

Your section leader will send out information on this as and when available. Some sections are not using this so why not have a go at some of the other great activities we have instead on this page.

Jamboree On The Internet (JOTI)

A great opportunity to talk and take part in lots of activities online with Scouts from across the world. Organised by World Scouting Jamboree on the Internet, which is also known as JOTI, is ran annually in October however with the current pandemic a special edition of the event is coming soon. Happening from 3rd April to 5th April Scouts from across the world will join online in a virtual campsite. Join in chat forums, video discussions and online gaming like Minecraft. Yes, Minecraft! Build your own Scout world.

More information and registration can be found at www.jotajoti.info.

All activity in JOTI is moderated and we request an adult is supervising when taking part.

Summers of Skills

In the summer of 2019 we launched the Summer of Skills. As Scouts, we believe in fun, adventure and equipping young people with the skills they need to succeed in life. The Summer of Skills was a celebration of that, with activities designed to entertain wandering minds and broaden horizons. With these fun, easy, skills based ideas your family will be set for an exciting, adventurous Summer of Skills. These are more lighthearted activities for all the family to have a go at. Visit Summer of Skills for more information.
It’s time to reclaim the summer holidays.

Enjoy Scouts at Home and good luck!

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
