Your Role

Finding your position in a new team or voluntary role can always be challenging. At The Scouts we’ve tried to make it easier by detailing a few jobs you may get involved in but the main part of Scouting is that we are all volunteers and doing our best is a pivotal part of being a volunteer within our group.

The link below shows all the roles available within a group and the tasks you are involved in. Look and find your role.

Training Information

All adult volunteers have an opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge through training. Training helps you to undertake your role effectively and with confidence. Training Validation

For Getting Going and Getting On training modules they have to be validated. This is where a training adviser will talk to you about what you learnt on the course or on the job. Validation can also be achieved by witness statements. These can then be sent to training.adviser@1stfarnsfield.org.uk for your record to be updated.

Frequently Asked Questions

There are probably a million and one questions you would like to ask so we have a few common questions below. For more frequently asked questions and answers please email the Group Scout Leader.

Is there a person directory?

To ensure compliance with Data Protection and keep data in one place the group keeps all adult data within Compass and Online Scout Manager. To access Compass go to http://compass.scouts.org.uk and log in with your membership number.

Are there group email distribution lists?

Yes there are distribution lists for all sections, committees, training adviser and and key roles. These can be found in the groups closed Facebook group for volunteers. You can access this by searching for 1st Farnsfield Volunteers in Facebook.

Is there a library of group risk assessments?

Yes for all activities we conduct we need to create a risk assessment. These risk assessments are presented at the Group Leaders Meeting and stored in the Risk Assessment Library for future use by others. We’ve built up a great library which speeds up what we need to do to keep safe.

Where do I find my membership number?

you can find your membership in a number of places. If you receive The Scouts national emails will be located at the bottom of the email. If you don’t, when joining you will have received an email which includes your membership number. this membership number can be used to log into Compass, the national adult membership system.

Getting Started with Online Scout Manager

The group uses Online Scout Manager heavily for young people data. Each section uses the system to manage personal records, programme, events, payments and badges. Parents can also access their young persons details to see how they are getting on and keeping us updated. Key information listed below can be found at the particular times to avoid watching it all!

  • Sending Emails – 7 minutes 30 seconds
  • Remove Member From OSM – 9 minutes 20 seconds
  • Transfer Member to Other Section – 9 minutes 20 seconds
  • Adding Programme and Linking Badges – 18 minutes
  • Registering Attendance – 22 minutes
  • Creating Events – 24 minutes 30 seconds
  • Adding a Parent Rota – 34 minutes 40 seconds

  • Creating a Schedule – 2 minutes 36 seconds (Don’t need to use this. Use the already setup one called Events)
  • Creating a Payment – 3 minutes (Found under “Section Admin” > “Online Payments” > “Events” & Section Name)
  • Adding a Payment to an Event – 3 minutes 20 seconds

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
