Sleepovers Galore!

Date: 21st Jul 2019 Author: News Editor

It’s been a busy summer term for members of 1st Farnsfield Beavers. Both colonies have held sleepovers to work towards some of their challenge award badges. Halifax Beavers held a Science themed sleepover in Ollerton during May followed a month later by Fern Beavers holding a Pirate Sleepover in Bilsthorpe. Over 40 Beavers and volunteers attended in total.

It was a warm weekend in May when the Halifax Beavers held their sleepover. It was a great weekend made up of different science activities from making a citrus volcano out of an orange, craft activities and finishing with a campfire, songs and toasting marshmallows. With the warm weather it had to involve a small water fight which all the Beavers enjoyed.

A month later, on another warm, sunny day, the Fern Beavers set off from Farnsfield on their pirate ramble to Bilsthorpe. Using their navigation skills they had to find where the buried treasure was (or just where they were sleeping). Arriving at lunch time, the Beavers had an afternoon and evening full of pirate themed activities from making their own pirate hats, designing a pirate ship in their lodges, a fiercely competitive tug of war battle and a water obstacle course.

Thank you to the adult volunteers that arranged both sleepovers.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
