Scouts Reach High for Awards

Date: 1st May 2021 Author: News Editor

Nine young people from 1st Farnsfield Scout Group have achieved the highest award they can get in their age groups – the Chief Scout Award. Through a lot of hard work and commitment over a difficult last year of online meetings and sporadic face-to-face meetings due to COVID-19 the young people have now completed the prestigious award.

To achieve the award, they have to complete several challenges such as learning about the world, experiencing new adventurous activities, developing personal skills, planning and walking an expedition, becoming a leader, completing team work challenges and showing their creative flair with activities.

The Chief Scout Awards increase in difficulty as the young progress through starting at Bronze level through to Diamond and onto the Queens Scout Award where it is presented by the royal family. Well done to Connor, George, William, Seanan, Megan, Martha and Lottie who all achieved their Chief Scout Gold Award. George and Alice who achieved their Chief Scout Bronze Award.

Being in lockdown was not going to stop the Beavers and Scouts. For at least a year of their time working towards this award they have been in a pandemic but is hasn’t stopped them. They joined online Zoom meetings each week and completed challenges at home in order to reach this goal.

Group Scout Leader, Chris Blockley, presented the awards at the groups recent virtual St George’s Day celebration. He said “As a group we are very proud of the Beavers and Scouts who have achieved this award. They’ve shown a real drive and commitment to reach this goal all under a difficult period in everyone’s life. Well done!”.
