Founders Day #ThankTwo

Date: 22nd Feb 2021 Author: News Editor

Every year on 22nd February, we take some time to commemorate the history of Scouts and thank the volunteers who make it possible.

Founders Day is celebrated by over 50 million Scouts from around the world at local, national international levels. It celebrates the birthday of Lord Robert Baden-Powell, the pioneer of Scouting. The day is a crucial event in the Scouting calendar when members renew their Scout Promise reaffirming their commitment to the core values of the Scouting Movement.

It’s also a day to thank volunteers who may Scouting happen on a weekly basis delivering life skills to young people directly or even managing the activities behind the scenes. On behalf of everyone who enjoys Scouting we say #Thankyou to volunteers both past and present who have helped young people in Farnsfield and surrounding villages gain skills for life.

This 22nd February is slightly different – after what’s been a bit of a rubbish 12 months – we can’t thank our volunteers in person but Scouts across the UK want to double the amount of gratitude we show by asking volunteers, young people and parents/careers to join us by celebrating #ThankTwo.

It’s easy to get involved – all we ask is that you show your gratitude and thank two people and/or groups of people. These people can be fellow members who’ve kept Scouting despite the setbacks, volunteers who’ve organised Scouts meetings, and/or heroes of your local community.

We have some templates you can use to colour in and display in your window.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
