Crime Busting Beavers

Date: 14th Mar 2020 Author: News Editor

On Tuesday 10th March, members of the 1st Farnsfield Halifax Beavers took a trip to Mansfield Police Station on Great Central Road Mansfield as part of their Safety activity badge. The safety activity badge is one of 22 activity badges that the Beavers can earn during their time in Scouting.

The Police Officers showed the Beavers, aged 6 to 8, around the state of the art police station and all the equipment they use to combat crime in their day to day job. This helped explain some key parts of the Safety badge that the Beavers have been working towards this term. The evening culminated in the young people having a go with the equipment that the Police use and looking inside a police van!

The Beavers would like to say a massive thank you to Inspector Greaves and all the Police Officers that helps show them around and the experience of seeing inside a Police Station for the first time!

Our other Beaver section which meet on a Wednesday have been completing the Air Activities Stage 1 badge this term with a visit from former members of the RAF to learn about life in the royal air force. The air activity badge is one of fifteen Beavers staged activity badges where they can learn more as they progress through the levels from simply creating a paper aeroplane at Stage 1 through to understanding the instruments of an aeroplane at Stage 6.

Thank you again to the former members of the RAF who came and helped inspire the next generation of budding pilots.

The scout group relies on adult volunteers to help offer the opportunity of adventure to young people.
