Farnsfield Beavers kicked off an action-packed term of birthday celebrations during May. This year sees Beavers Scouts celebrate their 35th year since they were founded in 1986. Back in 1986 UK Scouting decided to trial scouting for young people aged from 6 to 8 after successful trials across the world. Farnsfield followed suit and thirty five years later the section is still going strong.
The Beavers started with a birthday party and received a 35th Birthday commemorative badge to wear on their camp blankets. At the start of May the Beavers took on Captain Tom’s Challenges by coming up with 100 acts of kindness they could complete. These ranged from helping adults to cook a meal down to the simple ones of just saying ‘thank you’. Later in the month the Beavers also gave St Michael’s churchyard a spring clean by sweeping up and weeding the flower beds. Well done Beavers!
The section have been tracking down the first Beavers and leaders at Farnsfield and after successfully finding them they had the chance to meet them. Thank you to Jenny Elston, Peter Cracknell and Graham McCabe for coming along and sharing their stories of what Beavers was like in 1986.
Next on the Beavers 35th Birthday planner is a water activity day, learning about disabilities and keeping healthy in their very own mini Olympics!
