A MEGA Adventure

Date: 9th Jun 2018 Author: Chris Blockley

Thousands of young people have been enjoying the thrills and spills of Nottinghamshire Scouts’ and Guides’ biggest camp of 2018.

About 4,500 young people and adults from across Nottinghamshire flocked to Walesby Forest Activity Centre for a bank holiday weekend of fun and adventure.  It was the first event in many years where both the Scout and Guide organisations came together to offer a very special event for their members. It saw close to one hundred young people from Farnsfield Scouts & Guides join others to experience adventure and explore new challenges. Farnsfield Guides and Scouts joined forces to give as much opportunity as possible to young people from Farnsfield and surrounding areas to experience this unique event.

The event officially opened on Friday night followed by three days of adventure. Activities ranged from zip wires to ice skating, gladiator duelling to star-gazing and quad biking in the forest: there was also the chance to have a go at a freefall stunt bag jump! The big favourite was Zorbing, where the young people got inside a giant inflatable wheel and pushed it round a course. On the Sunday, forty members of Farnsfield Beavers joined in the activities, getting a glimpse of what adventures can happen on a mega activity weekend.

HM King Charles III has been confirmed as our new Patron, a great honour for UK Scouts.

The King continues a long tradition of the monarch giving their Patronage, dating back to 1912. This was when Scouts was granted its Royal Charter and HM George V became our first Patron.
