1st Farnsfield Scouts joined over two hundred other members of the Scouts this October in the annual Night Owl incident hike and camp at nearby Sherbrooke campsite in Calverton.
The Scouts worked hard in a night walk of six miles through the countryside around Calverton. Teams consisted of no more than seven young people and involved seven incident bases where the scouts took on some challenges in the dark. The young people had lots of fun and worked hard hiking over newly ploughed fields at night, while map navigating their way from point to point.
The Scouts spent an evening before the event preparing themselves for their walk; becoming familiar with survival bags, first aid kits, warm clothing, sensible footwear and waterproofs. The young people had to carry their own water and spare clothing in order to be prepared, in case of themselves or a fellow walker getting cold or wet in the winter conditions.
During the day the Scouts worked towards their Outdoor Challenge award with fire lighting and cooking on open fires. They did a range of activities including archery and sledging on the campsites sledge run!
Farnsfield Scouts meet weekly during term time at the Farnsfield Village Centre. If you would like to find out more, please contact Group Scout Leader Chris Blockley, on 07779324341.
