If you weren’t aware this year Cubs Scouts are celebrating their 100th year. Yipeee! In January 1914 it all started with a pilot programme for younger boys named ‘Wolf Cubs’. It was a great success and 12 months later the section was 10,000 members strong.

It took 27 years before Cubs came to Farnsfield. 73 years later Farnsfield Cubs and the group is still at the heart of the village. Despite all the changes to the village (and to society in general) Scouting has adapted, remained a relevant part of our community and continues to make a huge impact on society.

This year the Cubs have been many adventures outside of Farnsfield. It started with a birthday kick off at the beginning of the year, a Weekend Activity Camp with 1,500 other Cubs at Southwell Racecourse and before the summer the Cubs joined hundreds of others from across the District to ice skate at Nottingham Ice Arena. This term the adventure doesn’t stop with a trip to London. On 17th September fifteen members of the Cub section (aged 8 to 10½) set out on an early morning trip picking up the coach from local campsite, Sherbrooke, in Calverton. They zoomed down to London on an executive luxury coach to thousaands of other Cubs visiting both the Natural History and Science Museums in one day. The morning saw dinosaurs, fossils and all things history. A short break for lunch in Hyde Park and then back to the Science Museum.

A great day and thank you to the parents, young and adult volunteers who made it all possible. A great day! Cubs look forward to a 100th Birthday Party in December to finish the year of celebrations off.
