100 Years of Remembrance

Date: 18th Nov 2018 Author: Chris Blockley

A major event in our yearly scouting calendar is joining together with other groups from Farnsfield to remember those that served in our armed forces. This year was no different as young people and leaders from all the scouting sections (Beavers, Cubs and Scouts) that make up 1st Farnsfield Scout Group joined in the parade through Farnsfield, culminating in a remembrance service at St Michael’s Church and wreath laying at the memorial outside.

Over 60 members of the scout group joined over 150 at Farnsfield Cricket Club before parading through the village to the service. After the service the Scouts laid wreaths at the memorial outside of the church and presented a special 100 years of armistice wreath to remember 100 years since armistice day. The parade then marched back through the village and were dismissed at Ridgeway.

Thank you to all members of the public that came out and either walked or supported the remembrance event.

This coming term the scout group is holding it’s very first Christmas Fayre on Tuesday 27th November 5pm until 7:30pm in the Village Hall. There will be a variety of stalls selling gifts. There’s something for everyone and children will enjoy the face painting, Christmas games and teddy tombola. Not to be missed is the raffle with lots of fantastic prizes up for grabs. Please come along and support us.

Scouting provides a second family to lots of young people. It’s a safe place where they can aspire and grow.'
